Alumni

Peninsula School alumni are a special bunch of people who all have something wonderful in common — Peninsula! We have been graduating students for the last 100 years, and are honored to have such a varied, interesting and rich community of alumni. 

Whether one was a student in the 1930s or the 2020s, Peninsula School is a home away from home. We would like to help Peninsula classmates stay in touch with each other and the school. In an effort to help this connection, we have our alumni newsletter, The Big Puddle Post, which includes alumni updates; we support special reunions for the 10th, 25th and 50th (but are happy to help with any other reunions that arise); and we have a Facebook group.

We want to make sure to invite alumni to these special events and to the annual Spring Fair. As one alumna recently said, "Neither friendship nor learning end at 8th-grade graduation," and neither should your connection to Peninsula and this wonderful community!

Football After Peninsula

Did you know that we have at least two Peninsula alumni who have gone on to play professional football? A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to travel to Oakland to watch a Women’s Professional Football League matchup between the Golden State Storm (new expansion team) and the San Diego Rebellion. The game itself was an inspiring display of athleticism, resilience, and teamwork at the highest level of competition.

One of the most exciting aspects of the experience was seeing Peninsula alum Knengi Martin ’98 in action. Martin serves as the Team Owner, Head Coach, and also plays Linebacker and Offensive Line for the Rebellion—a remarkable example of leadership both on and off the field. I originally met Martin when they returned to campus last year for the Centennial Spring Fair, making it especially meaningful to see their continued success and impact in professional sports.

While the final score was 36–0 in favor of the Rebellion, it certainly did not reflect the full story of the game. The Storm demonstrated determination, grit, and a strong sense of unity throughout, continuing to compete hard until the very end. Their effort was a powerful reminder that sports are about more than just the scoreboard—they are about perseverance, growth, and teamwork. Learning to lose with grace is also a life skill.

Experiences like this highlight the lasting value of athletics in education. Participation in sports helps students build confidence, discipline, and resilience. Equally important, it teaches the fundamentals of teamwork—how to communicate effectively, support one another, and work toward a shared goal. These are skills that extend far beyond the playing field and into every aspect of life, from academics to future careers.

I look forward to collaborating with others as we begin to explore the development of Middle School Athletics at Peninsula as part of our strategic plan. Creating opportunities for students to engage in sports at an earlier age can foster not only physical health, but also a strong sense of community, leadership, and teamwork that will benefit them for years to come.
