Thank you for your interest in Peninsula School. It is our intention to make the admissions process understandable and predictable for you. Choosing a school for your child is a big decision. We hope that by outlining our process, you will have the information you need as we make a commitment to each other.
Open Houses — For those families interested in Nursery and Kindergarten, we will hold our open houses on Saturday, October 27, 2018 and Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 10:00am to 11:30am. Children are welcome.
School Tours — For all families, school tours during the 2018-19 school year are scheduled for Thursdays at 11:00 am on: October 25, November 8 and 30, December 6 and 13, all in 2018, and on January 10 in 2019. Parents only, please.
Registration for the open houses and school tours is not required.
Step One: If you are interested in sending your child to Peninsula, the first required step is to visit the school, observe classes, and meet by appointment with the Admissions Director, Mary Lou Lacina.
Step Two: Fill out an application and return it with the non-refundable fee. Applications are accepted year-round for nursery through 8th grade. Applications received by January 22, 2019 are the first group of applicants to be considered for the fall. Applications received by this date are given equal consideration except for siblings of current students and children of staff, who are given priority and whose applications must be received by January 7 of 2019. Applications received on or after January 22, 2019 will be considered secondarily to those received by January 22, 2019.
Step Three: For children whose applications are received by January 22, there will be group visits with teachers. For nursery applicants, the visit will take place on Saturday, February 2. For kindergarten applicants, the visit will take place on Saturday, February 9. The Admissions Director will contact parents to set up this appointment.
Primary and Upper School Levels:
Applicants will be selected to visit classes beginning in February. The Admissions Director will contact parents to set up this visit.
Step Four: Parents of children selected thus far in the enrollment process then meet with the Admissions Director for a final interview to discuss mutual expectations and goals. It is only after this conference that a final decision is made.
Decisions are mailed out March 14, 2019.
For those children placed in a waiting pool, there may be additional openings between April and June as returning and new families make final contractual commitments for the following year. Occasionally some openings occur during the summer and in early September.
If you have any questions, please contact Admissions Director Mary Lou Lacina at (650) 325-1584, ext. 114 or email Admissions.

The criteria that enter into consideration in the enrollment process for all children and families (including siblings of current students, and children of staff) are:
- Nursery children must be potty-trained and 3 years old by the end of September
- Kindergarten children must be 5 years old by the end of October.
- Age and maturity of child in relation to age range in the group
- Number of openings at each age/grade level
- Boy/girl balance in each class
- Diversity: ethnic, cultural, socio-economic, family composition, racial identity, sexual orientation
- Match of family/child with Peninsula School
While alumni status and other associations with Peninsula School are important criteria considered in the admission decision, they are not deciding factors alone.
