Thank you for your interest in Peninsula School. It is our intention to make the admissions process understandable and predictable for you. Choosing a school for your child is a big decision. We hope that by outlining our process, you will have the information you need as we make a commitment to each other.

Optional Steps:

For those families interested in nursery, kindergarten and first grade, we will hold our Open House on Saturday, November 15, 2008, from 10:00 to11:30 a.m. Children are welcome.

For all families, school tours in the 2008/09 school year are scheduled for Thursdays, Oct. 9, Oct. 16, Nov. 6, Nov. 20, Dec. 4, and Jan. 8 & 15. Tours begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. Parents only, please.

Step One:

If you are interested in sending your child to Peninsula the first required step is to visit the school, observe classes, and meet by appointment with the Admissions Director, Mary Lou Lacina.

Step Two:

Fill out an application and return it with the non-refundable fee. Applications are accepted year-round for nursery through 8th grade. Applications received by February 1 are the first group of applicants to be considered for the following fall. Applications received by this date are given equal consideration except for siblings of current students and children of staff, who are given priority and whose applications must be received by January 2. Applications received on February 2 and after will be considered secondarily to those received by February 1.

Step Three:

Nursery and kindergarten children:
For children whose applications are received by February 1 there will be a group visit with teachers on Saturday, February 7. The Admissions Director will contact parents to set up this appointment.

Primary and Upper School Levels:
Applicants will visit classes beginning in February. The Admissions Director will contact parents to set up this visit.

Step Four:

Parents of those children selected thus far in the enrollment process then meet with the Admissions Director for a final interview to discuss mutual expectations and goals. It is only after this conference that the final decision is made.
Usually this interviewing process is completed by late March and applicants are notified at that time by letter, either of acceptance or the placement of a child’s name in a waiting pool of applicants. For those children not admitted at this time, there may be additional openings between April and June 15 as returning and new families make final contractual commitments for the following year. Occasionally some openings occur during the summer and early September.

Please, if you have any questions, contact Mary Lou Lacina in Admissions at (650) 325-1584, ext. 14, or marylou@peninsulaschool.org
