The Big Building

Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Peninsula School. It is our intention to make the admissions process understandable and predictable for you. Choosing a school for your child is a big decision. We hope that by outlining our process, you will have the information you need as we make a commitment to each other.

Optional Steps:

For those families interested in nursery, kindergarten and first grade, we will hold our Open House on Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Children are welcome.

For all families, school tours in the 2011/12 school year are scheduled for Thursdays, Oct. 13, Nov. 3, Dec 1 & 8, Jan 5 & 12, at 10:00 a.m. Parents only, please.

Required Steps:

Step One: If you are interested in sending your child to Peninsula, the first required step is to visit the school, observe classes, and meet by appointment with the Admissions Director, Mary Lou Lacina.

Step Two: Fill out an application and return it with the non-refundable fee. Applications are accepted year-round for nursery through 8th grade. Applications received by January 20 are the first group of applicants to be considered for the fall. Applications received by this date are given equal consideration except for siblings of current students and children of staff, who are given priority and whose applications must be received by January 3 of 2012. Applications received on or after January 21 will be considered secondarily to those received by January 20.

Step Three:
Nursery and kindergarten children:
For children whose applications are received by January 20, there will be group visits with teachers. For nursery applicants, the visit will take place on Saturday, January 28. For kindergarten applicants, the visit will take place on Saturday, February 4. The Admissions Director will contact parents to set up this appointment.

Primary and Upper School Levels:
Applicants will be selected to visit classes beginning in February. The Admissions Director will contact parents to set up this visit.

Step Four: Parents of children selected thus far in the enrollment process then meet with the Admissions director for a final interview to discuss mutual expectations and goals. It is only after this conference that a final decision is made.

Decisions are mailed out in the third week of March.

For those children placed in a waiting pool, there may be additional openings between April and June as returning and new families make final contractual commitments for the following year Occasionally some openings occur during the summer and in early September.
Please, if you have any questions, contact Admissions Director Mary Lou Lacina at (650) 325-1584, ext. 14.
